About the Author
Larbi Oukada, a native of Casablanca, Morocco, is the chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures at Georgia College. Professor Oukada received a Ph.D. in linguistics from Louisiana State University. His research and publications have focused on French phonology, methods of teaching second languages, and the notion of curricular responsiveness. Professor Oukada coauthored with the late Mike Oates of Iowa a first-year French program entitled ENTRE AMIS, now in its sixth edition and adopted by over 350 colleges and universities. He is also the lead author of CONTROVERSES, now in its third edition. Michael Oates of late was a professor of French at the University of Northern Iowa from 1967 to 2003. He received his Ph.D. in French from Georgetown University and was certified as an ACTFL Oral Proficiency Tester in French. In 1989, he won the ACTFL Nelson Brooks Award for Excellence in the Teaching of Culture. He is a Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Acad miques.
