This explains and illustrates the use of system dynamics simulation and virtual reality modelling approaches for understanding and modeling the spatial and temporal behaviour of natural and managed water resource systems. Simulation models built using generic modeling objects grounded on system dynamics concepts are presented and demonstrated. Virtual reality modeling using immersive simulation environments is discussed and its value for hydrologic modeling and water resources management is elaborated to set out the state-of-the-art of these emerging approaches. The book applies system dynamics to a generic simulation environment to develop models that can help complex relationships, generate scenarios and explain the dynamic behaviour of the system. It also uses data generated from a calibrated and validated model to enable visualization of physical processes and engineering control in an immersive virtual reality-based environment. The simulation tools discussed are generic and easy to develop and evaluate the system behaviour in time and space. This can be applied for any water resources management problems such as water demand and supply allocations, flooding, and the interactions between different types of water.
