How united is the New Taliban, and how does it maintain whatever degree of unity it has, given the attrition it has suffered in the field? And to what extent is its leadership able to impose switches in strategy among the rank-andfile, given Afghanistan's difficult geography and poor communications? About the Author
Antonio Giustozzi has spent more than a decade visiting, researching, and writing on Afghanistan. He is based at the Crisis States Research Centre at the LSE, where he focuses on the political aspects of insurgency and warlordism. His most recent book is Koran, Kalashnikov and Laptop, also published by Hurst.
