The book provides a brief introduction to seven aspects of terrorism. It starts with acknowledging the ambiguity of the concept of terrorism (Ch.1) and discusses its rationality (Ch.2). Ch.3 provides evidence on the lethality of terrorism. Ch.4 uses global statistics on terrorism to describe how terrorism affect different areas, from a small scale (continent) to a large scale (city) point of view. Ch. 5 highlights the dynamic of terrorism, i.e. how terrorism has changed over time. Ch. 6 points out the tendency of terrorism to be aggregated in space. Ch. 7 focuses on the diffusion process of terrorism, which occurs in areas strongly affected by terrorism. Ch. 8 provides a summary of the previous chapters and highlights key known and unknown characteristics of terrorism.
