Description

The hoard of Roman-British temple treasure discovered at Ashwell in 2002 provides fascinating new insights into the ritual of Roman religion. This is the first full publication of the Ashwell treasure since its high profile discovery in 2002, and features a detailed, highly illustrated discussion of the beautiful gold and silver votive plaques as well as the figurine of the previously unknown goddess Senuna. It will be essential reading for anyone with an interest in Roman religion, especially in Roman Britain, as well as historians and archaeologists.

About the Author
Ralph Jackson is a senior curator at the British Museum. Previous publications include Doctors and Diseases in the Roman Empire; Camerton: A Catalogue of Late Iron Age and Early Roman Metalwork; Excavations at Stonea, Cambridgeshire 1980-85; Cosmetic Sets of Late Iron Age and Roman Britain; and (with Richard Hobbs) Roman Britain. Gilbert Burleigh is an independent archaeologist and honorary field officer for the North Hertfordshire Archaeological Society. Previous publications include Excavations at Baldock, Hertfordshire, 1978 - 1994 (with Keith Fitzpatrick-Matthews).

Reviews
In sum, this is a scholarly publication of significant merit and will be of wide interest for many years to come, not just to Roman scholars but also those interested in the archaeology of ritual and religion, feasting and the curation of ancient artefacts in the past. The high standard and success of this publication is a testament to the expertise of the two authors: one a highly regarded local archaeologist, and the other, one of the most well-respected museum curators of his generation. * Archaeological Journal *

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
