Description

"Splendid. Uproariously funny and movingly beautiful." Der Spiegel. Lucy Fricke's Daughters tells the story of two women, pushing forty, on a road trip across Europe, each of them dealing with difficult fathers along the way. A bestseller and booksellers' favourite in Germany, Daughters evokes laughter and tears by way of life and death, friendship and family.

Winner of the Bavarian Book Prize

About the Author
Lucy Fricke, born in Hamburg in 1974, has been awarded several prizes for her work. She was recently a resident at the German Academy in Rome and at Ledig House, New York. Daughters is her fourth novel, for which she received the Bavarian Book Prize in 2018. Lucy Fricke also runs HAM.LIT, Hamburg's first live festival for young literature and music. She lives in Berlin. Sinead Crowe comes from Dublin. After completing a PhD in German theatre at Trinity College Dublin and working for several years as a lecturer in German Studies, she moved to Hamburg, where she began her career as a translator. Her translations include Ronen Steinke's Fritz Bauer: The Jewish Prosecutor who Brought Eichmann and Auschwitz to Trial and Pierre Jarawan's The Storyteller, a co-translation with Rachel McNicholl. Sinead Crowe also teaches at the University of Hamburg's Institute of English and American Studies.

Reviews
"In this wildly funny novel, women-on-the-edge-of-a-nervous-breakdown Betty and Martha take us on a madcap journey through Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Greece, as they try to resolve their relationships with their all-too frail and human fathers. Sinead Crowe's seamless translation captures the humour, self-irony, honesty and wisdom of Betty's lively narrative." Antonia Lloyd-Jones, translator of Olga Tokarczuk

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
