Description

AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR AND HISTORIAN STEPHEN DANDO-COLLINS PROVIDES UNPARALLELED NEW INSIGHT INTO THE FIRST JEWISH REVOLT

Dando-Collins details the conflict from both sides of the 7-year campaign. His examination of the revolt draws upon numerous archaeological and forensic discoveries made in recent years to illuminate the people and events as never before.

Neither side emerges from the conflict unscathed. Both were at times equally heroic and barbaric. In the end, the Jewish freedom fighters lost the war and lost Jerusalem, their holy city- the focus of the campaign by both sides. Yet today, Jerusalem is once more the heart of the Jewish faith, while, thanks to Christianity-an offshoot of Judaism-the Roman Empire and its gods are long gone.

Conquering Jerusalem illustrates that faith can have its rewards, and the tables can be turned, if you wait long enough.

About the Author
Stephen Dando-Collins is the author of 44 books. Australian-born, he is an acknowledged authority on the legions of ancient Rome. In all his books, Dando-Collins aims to travel roads others have not, to unearth new facts and open new perspectives on overlooked figures and events. The majority of his works deal with military history, ranging from Greek, Persian and Roman times to American 19th-century history and World War I and II.

Reviews

"For far too long, the Great Revolt has been overlooked in the grand sweep of history. Stephen Dando-Collins finally gives this epochal event the focus it deserves, and in the way that only he can. Full of tragedy and triumph, heartbreak and heroism, Conquering Jerusalem deftly balances masterful storytelling with exquisite attention to detail. This book is a must-read to understand this conflict, which still reverberates to this day." -Phillip Barlag, author of Evil Roman Emperors, The History of Rome in 12 Buildings, and The Leadership Genius of Julius Caesar

"A gripping and pacy account of the Great Jewish Revolt against the might of Rome, from its chaotic inception to the final destruction and leveling of Jerusalem in AD 70. Stephen Dando-Collins narrates his well-researched account of the complex and often harrowing events with a punchy clarity. One can't help thinking that the revolt might have succeeded were it not for the extreme level of factionalism and infighting that beset the Jewish cause from beginning to end." -Paul N. Pearson, author of Maximinus Thrax: From Common Soldier to Emperor of Rome

"Stephen Dando-Collins tells this story as a rip-roaring yarn that clarifies both the complexities of combat and the political maneuvers that influenced the outcome of the military struggle." -David Richter, professor emeritus at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York

"Dando-Collins' skillful descriptions enable us to see not only how much, but how little the world has changed." -Portland Book Review

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
