Description

Christine Gedeon's Aleppo: Deconstruction | Reconstruction is a series of fifteen works on paper, exploring places in pre-civil war Syria, which belong to the artist's personal history. Ranging from the quotidian to the tragic, these include such sites as her grandfather's office, located closely to the Citadel, as well as the famed Baron Hotel. Unaware of the present state of the city, Christine Gedeon recreated a version Aleppo, accessible only by memory. Her new book is moving evidence of art's curative capabilities, supplemented by family photographs and an essay on Syria by Nasser Rabbat.

About the Author
Christine Gedeon was born in Aleppo, Syria, raised in the U.S., and now divides her time between Berlin and New York. The relationship between maps and memory has played a central role in her artwork. From works on canvas to sprawling, site-specific installations and wall drawings, Gedeon explores mapping in various mediums. She uses fabric and thread with a sewing machine as a drawing tool, creates installations and works on paper with string and tape, and has collaborated on a sound installation. Gedeon's work has appeared in galleries and institutions throughout the world, in various groups shows in New York, Berlin, Toronto, and Dubrovnik, and in a recent solo exhibition at Jane Lombard Gallery in New York. In addition to participating in several artist residencies, including as an invited guest with the Nordic Art Association (NFK) in Stockholm, she has also received grants and fellowships from such institutions as the Harpo Foundation, the Bronx Museum (AIM 30), and A.I.R. Gallery, New York. Her work has been written about in Art in America, Hyperallergic, The Dallas Morning News, and is featured in the book You Are Here: Mapping the Soul of the City by Katharine Harmon.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
