Description

This engaging and established textbook assumes minimal prior experience of science and maths and provides students with a complete course in chemical literacy. Written in an accessible and succinct style, this book offers comprehensive coverage of all the core topics in organic, inorganic and physical chemistry. Topics covered include bonding, moles, solutions and solubility, energy changes, equilibrium, organic compounds and spectroscopy. Each unit contains in-text exercises and revision questions to consolidate learning at every step, and is richly illustrated with diagrams and images to aid understanding.

This popular text is an essential resource for students who are looking for an accessible introductory textbook. It is also ideal for non-specialists on courses such as General Science, Engineering, Environmental, Health or Life Sciences.

Reviews for previous editions: 'Love at first sight: this really is a terrific book with bags of appeal particularly for students without an A-Level in chemistry and who have developed a mental block about all things chemical.' - Dr R J Martin, School of Civil Engineering, The University of Birmingham, UK (review posted on Amazon.co.uk) '[A] comprehensive introductory undergraduate text covering all the essentials required for a foundation chemistry course.' - Education in Chemistry '[G]ood value for money... Well written - clear explanations of concepts...' - Dr Jennifer Bochmann, School of Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy, University of East Anglia, UK 'I like it and more importantly so do a range of students.' - Paul Kneller, School of Conservation Sciences, University of Bournemouth, UK

Reviews
'The book is successful in achieving its aims and would be an excellent workbook for students from foundation courses through to first year undergraduates.' - Education in Chemistry Magazine 'I would reccomend this book to students who need a grounding in chemistry at university...I would also use this as a reference book for both support and extension at A-level...' - School Science Review '[A] comprehensive introductory undergraduate text covering all the essentials required for a foundation chemistry course.' - Education in Chemistry '[G]ood value for money... Well written - clear explanations of concepts...' - Dr Jennifer Bochmann, School of Chemical Sciences and Pharmacy, University of East Anglia, UK 'I like it and more importantly so do a range of students.' - Paul Kneller, School of Conservation Sciences, University of Bournemouth, UK 'The book is well structured, comprehensive and readable and covers key material that students should know' - Leonard Stevenson, Department of Consumer Studies, Liverpool John Moores University, UK 'Student friendly. Well thought out. For learners not teachers' 'I have been training as a paramedic and I needed a basic chemistry book for some sections of the syllabus. I was very pleased to find this book: it seems designed for people like me rather than super students of chemistry. There are plenty of problems which test you before you move on to the next text.' 'It picks up with GCSE level Chemistry and quickly covers the basics of atoms, molecules, structures etc and then diverges into a good coverage of most branches of Chemistry - certainly all the ones I need, including Organic, Nuclear, Forensic and some very basic Biochemistry. The appendices are useful and having answers to all exercises is good for a book used outside a course curriculum... I use it to dip into and so far it has answered all my questions at exactly the right level of detail. I only wish I'd had it while at University!' 'This book was recommended to me by a university lecturer... It's a great book for A'Level or Foundation degree level students as the topics covered are fairly basic but it explains everything very clearly. Made my first year much easier as I was always dipping into this book. The questions do help with revision too.'

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
