Description

Cardiovascular Computed Tomography has a prominent role in the diagnosis and management across a wide spectrum of clinical indications. Therefore, knowledge about this exciting technology is critical for imaging specialists and clinicians alike. Complementary to more detailed textbooks, this book is geared towards readers, who are learning about cardiovascular CT regardless of their clinical specialty. It is intended to be a short practical introduction with a focus on visual material. With this in mind, the third edition has been carefully revised and updated to include recent developments in CT scanner technology and clinical indications. The current third edition of the book covers the entire spectrum of cardiovascular computed tomography, but the text and number of images have been reduced to focus on the essential material. Cardiac CT Made Easy provides a rapid introduction and initial understanding about cardiovascular CT.

Key Features

  • Covers the entire spectrum of cardiovascular computed tomography; this third edition provides a concise and practical text
  • Addresses the needs of radiologists and cardiologists who practice cardiovascular imaging, providing technical and practical aspects of MDCT for cardiovascular applications, especially from the perspective of clinicians
  • Contains new material covering recent developments in CT scanner technology (e.g. photon-counting detector technology) and clinical indications (e.g. imaging in the context of structural and valvular interventional procedures)

About the Author

Paul Schoenhagen, MD, is Professor of Radiology at Case Western University, Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. He is staff physician in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology and in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine. His clinical interest is focused on cardiovascular imaging with computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. He received his initial clinical training in internal medicine and radiology in Stuttgart, Germany. This was followed by a residency in internal medicine and fellowships in cardiology and in cardiovascular tomography at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Schoenhagen was appointed to Cleveland Clinic in 2003.He has published numerous original and review articles in leading peer-reviewed journals. He has been invited to present his clinical experience and research at medical symposia and conferences in Japan, China, Europe, and nationally.

Frank Dong, PhD, DABR, FAAPM, is a staff diagnostic physicist and an associate professor of Radiology at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Dong received his Ph.D. degree in Medical Physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Dong's specialty is in the field of CT image quality, CT radiation dosimetry, and diagnostic ultrasound. He has authored and co-authored 38 peer-reviewed articles, 3 book chapters, 15 patents and 88 national and international meeting abstracts/presentations. His clinical research is focused on low contrast lesion detectability with advanced CT reconstruction algorithms, as well as the impact of metal artifacts reduction on the low contrast lesion detection using custom-designed arthroplasty phantom. Dr. Dong is the co-investigator of an industrially funded research project involving evaluation of image quality and diagnostic efficacy of a photon counting CT (PCCT). He currently serves as the director for American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) Diagnostic Review Courses. He also serves as the AAPM representative to the writing group of American College of Radiology (ACR)-AAPM Technical Standard for CT Performance Monitoring. Dr. Dong is a fellow of AAPM, a member of American College of Radiology, and the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) CT Board of Directors.

Reviews

Dr Paul Schoenhagen from the Imaging Institute and Heart & Vascular Institute at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA and Dr Frank Dong from the same Imaging Institute with contributions by Lei Zhao and Xiaohai Ma from the Department of Radiology, Beijng Anzhen Hospital, China have published now the third edition of this well-known book. This book is written by these experts with a long journey is this rapidly expanding feld; given these rapid developments both in technology as well as clinical applications, we ,as the readers and users of this technology, need to be kept up-to-date about the basics and these new development.
The book in subdivided into 2 Sections: the Basics and the Clinical Cardiovascular Applications. The Basics Section is divided into a general introduction, the CT perspective of the normal cardiovascular anatomy, and the technical aspects of MSCT, and all richly illustrated, which applies actually to the entire book. The Clinical Section covers in a total of 10 chapters all the diseases where MSCT plays a role, being the cardiac chambers and myocardial disease, pericardial disease, valvular heart disease, CT planning and guidance for TAVI, coronary arterial and venous disease, pulmonary vascular disease, aortic disease, peripheral artery disease, cardiac masses and adult congenital disease. There is a great list of 180 references and an Index.
This is a great, very accessible and up-to-date handbook in a nice format that deserves to be read.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
