Dr. Herbert Mayo taught full time for more than 50 years, most recently at The College of New Jersey, where he served as director of accreditation as well as professor. Dr. Mayo earned his Ph.D. from Rutgers University and his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Mayo was the sole author of the first 12 editions of this text, and he has used income from the book s sales to fund a range of philanthropic endeavors, including an annual business plan competition, a student investment fund and an endowed scholarship. Michael Lavelle is a managing director at Appraisal Economics Inc. In this role he supervises and performs valuations of businesses and complex financial securities.
