This collection presents a selection of varied repertoire by J. S. Bach in new arrangements for the organ. Bringing a wealth of popular pieces under the fingers and feet of intermediate players, the volume caters for all parts of a church service, as well as providing recital repertoire and popular encores. Taking its cue from the Baroque practice of transcription, and with the needs of modern players in mind, this volume presents a set of pieces with wide and varied use and makes a valuable addition to any organist's repertoire.
About the Author
Martin Setchell is an international concert organist who promotes entertaining organ music to a wide audience. Born and educated in England, he is based in New Zealand, as curator of the Rieger organ in Christchurch Town Hall, and Associate Professor of Music at the University of Canterbury. He regularly performs throughout the world, including tours in Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, and Japan. He has recorded several CDs, including A Taste of Shropshire, the highly successful Bonbons for Organ series, and Pink and White, an anthology of New Zealand organ music. Martin is often heard on BBC radio's The Organist Entertains, the USA's Pipe Dreams, and Radio New Zealand's concert programme. He has arranged Faure, Bizet, and Sousa (Kevin Mayhew Music), and edited OUP's A Saint-Saens Organ Album. He holds a Civic Award from the City of Christchurch for services to music in the community and the Town Hall organ in particular.

All are arranged very effectively - no unnecessary notes - for players at an 'intermediate' standard . . . most of these transcriptions could be very handy for weddings or funerals, as 'fillers', and as short but effective concert items . . . Setchell is a skilful arranger and the pieces would sound well on most church organs. His two-page introduction with notes on the pieces is authoritative and helpful. There is a good balance of both reflective and rousing works, with pieces suitable for weddings, funerals, church services and concerts . . . Registration suggestions have been given, which provide enough direction while still allowing the organist to explore what is possible on their instrument. Across the board they are effectively transcribed, sitting nicely under the hands and feet, with enough compositional integrity for the beauty of the music to shine through.
