Despite the warnings of the scientific community, humanity has so far failed to respect some essential compatibility limits to ensure sustainable development. Is it possible to change the course? This book tries to give an answer, focusing on climate change. It addresses the necessity of meeting the Paris Agreement temperature target and what framework could enable effective, efficient, and fair (equitable distributional) climate action that is consistent with that goal. It also looks at how technological change within the economic system can contribute to it, including the feasibility of a global energy transition. Whether humanity can avoid catastrophic climate change appears to be not a technological question, but rather a question of international cooperation.
