Description

This book covers the essential information needed to understand the latest developments of solid-state welding and processing of metallic materials, including physical metallurgy, production technologies, alloy development, compositing, post-processing, and joining methodologies.

Advances in Solid-State Welding and Processing of Metallic Materials is the result of the collaborative efforts from expert researchers across various institutions around the globe. Harnessing this wealth of expertise and experience, the book enables the reader to comprehend both the theory behind microstructural evolution, as well as the practical elements of welding and processing. It will also analyse strengthening mechanisms, corrosion mechanisms and wear mechanisms. Topics discussed in this book include friction stir welding, friction stir processing, modified friction stir clinching, hot-rolling and cold-rolling alongside diffusion bonding and powder metallurgy processing.

This book is a valuable companion to all students and researchers in metallurgy, materials science and engineering, manufacturing engineering, and production engineering.

About the Author

Dr. R. Vaira Vignesh completed his undergraduate studies with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (First Class with Distinction) at Karpagam College of Engineering, an autonomous institution affiliated with Anna University, Chennai. He holds the distinction of being the first and youngest scholar to embark on the doctoral program directly following his bachelor's degree at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, where he earned a Ph.D. in the Faculty of Engineering for his significant research contributions to magnesium-based biodegradable implant materials. Dr. Vairam's dedication and expertise have garnered him numerous accolades, including the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham - Chancellor's Publication Award for his outstanding work in the field of solid-state welding and processing of lightweight materials. He secured "Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham - Chancellor's Collaborative Research Fellowship" to support collaborative research on "Development and indigenization of sustainable Bio-Lubricants for Automotives" with King Mongkut's University of Technology, North Bangkok, Thailand. He presently holds the position of Assistant Professor (Senior Grade) within the Research Track in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Amrita School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Coimbatore Campus).

Dr. M. Govindaraju completed B.E in Metallurgical Engineering from Government College of Engineering, Salem, in the year 2001 and joined as Engineer at Nonferrous Materials Technology Development Center (NFTDC), Hyderabad in the same year. He served there for 15 years up to 2016 in various capacities including as Principal Scientist, before moving to Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in July 2016 as Assistant Professor at Department of Mechanical Engineering. After joining in NFTDC, he completed M.Tech. (Welding) and Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology Madras subsequently. His Ph.D. thesis is on friction stir processing of magnesium alloys. He has industry and research exposure of over ~23 years in various capacities. He has developed technologies for sheet brazing of automotive components and diffusion brazing of honeycomb structures which are transferred to industries. In addition, he is involved in building and indigenization of various process equipment, mainly high technology furnaces for processing of materials for Indian Space Research Organization, Bhabha Atomic Research Center, Defence Research and Development Organization and other national programs. He has completed 14 projects and 2 projects are ongoing; published more than 40 articles in international journals and conferences. He has indigenized more than 15 techniques / equipment for various applications in India.

Dr. R. Padmanaban brings two decades of extensive experience in mechanical engineering to his role as an editor, creating compelling narratives that reflect his deep expertise. Dr. Padmanaban completed his Ph.D. in friction stir welding. He is currently an associate professor in the department of mechanical engineering at the Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, India. Beyond academia, he is a prolific author, publishing in esteemed international journals and conferences. His areas of expertise span welding, material behaviour, and applying cutting-edge technologies like finite element methods, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to optimize manufacturing processes. In addition to his academic and research contributions, he is an active participant in the engineering community. He frequently conducts seminars, workshops, and presentations, sharing his insights and advancements in the field. He lends his expertise further by serving as a reviewer for international journals. The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
