Description

"Every passionate reader lives for that first page of a book that alerts her, straightaway, she'll be sorry when the book ends. So it is with Michelle Latiolais' astonishing, sparklingly intelligent new novel...The work strives, with bold zest, to arrive at the marrow of things...Latiolais triumphs, folding the work's clinical ruminations into the story's delicious batter. Powerfully recommended."-Antioch Review "The novel counts-in elegant and sometimes elegiac prose-the shadowy and elusive opportunities for redemption."-Ron Carlson, author of Five Skies "A ravishing intelligence is at work in these pages."-Elizabeth Tallent, author of Honey, on Even Now A gifted psychiatrist, haunted by the death of his young sister, seeks to penetrate the mysteries of childhood autism in this beautifully written, insightful investigation into the misunderstood pathways of the brain-and the heart. Michelle Latiolais is associate professor and co-director of the Programs in Writing at the University of California, Irvine. Her novel Even Now won the Commonwealth Club of California Gold Medal for Fiction in 1991.

A co-director (with James McMichael, Michael Ryan, and Ron Carlson) of the Programs in Writing at the University of California, Irvine, for ten years, Latiolais is extremely well connected in the literary fiction writing scene. She will seek blurbs for the book from Elizabeth Tallent, Carol Muske Dukes, Ron Carlson, Michael Chabon, Alice Sebold, Aimee Bender, Judith Freeman. We will also approach Sena Jeter Naslud, Diana Abu-Jaber, Sigrid Nunez, Lynn Tillman, Aimee Bender, Michael Chabon, and Ana Menendez. Latiolais is often invited to read; she has good contacts in several bookstores in the LA area: Dutton's, Chevalier's, Skylight Books, and the bookstore at UCI. Casa Romantica in San Clemente will also give her a reading. Media exposure and reviews: Radio and print: We will do a complete review mailing to the mainstream media and go for radio interviews on PRI and national, regional and local NPR stations. Among author contacts to whom we will address ourselves: Michael Silverblatt, BookWorm, KCRW, Los Angeles; Books & Company at KAET (Channel 8) Public Television in Arizona, hosted by Ron Carlson, her colleague at UCI.

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
