Description

This alphabetic guide introduces terms referring to key concepts in semantics and pragmatics. The study of meaning as it is conveyed through language - the domain of semantics and pragmatics - is one of the central concerns of linguistics, and its importance cannot be exaggerated. Written by an author well-known in the field of semantics, the glossary provides clear and accessible explanations of terms drawn from a wide range of theoretical approaches. Key features * A handy and easily understandable reference book for students beginning the study of semantics or pragmatics * Supplies numerous cross-references to related terms * Contains an introduction which provides an overview of the field * Covers traditional terminology as well as terms relating to more recent approaches, such as Cognitive Semantics * Includes an annotated bibliography with suggestions for further reading.

About the Author
Alan Cruse was formerly Senior Lecturer in Linguistics at Manchester University. He is the author of Lexical Semantics (1986), Meaning in Language: An Introduction to Semantics and Pragmatics (2nd edition 2004), joint author (with W. Croft) of Cognitive Linguistics (2004), and joint editor (with P. Lutzeier, F. Hundsnurscher, M. Job) of Handbook of Lexicology (Vol. 1, 2002, Vol. 2, 2005).

Reviews
Cruse's Glossary of Semantics and Pragmatics, is a most welcome work of reference, not only because there are no competing volumes on the market to date, but also because, like its sister volumes from the same series, the glossary is a useful terminological dictionary, especially, but not exclusively, for the intended readership. Will definitely use again!

Great experience and I have zero concerns. They communicated through the shipping process and if there was any hiccups in it, they let me know. Books arrived in perfect condition as well as being fairly priced. 10/10 recommend. I will definitely shop here again!

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.

Finding a hard to get book on Booksplease and with it not being an over inflated price was great. Ordering was really easy with updates on despatch. The book was packaged well and in great condition. I will certainly use them again.
