Born into a crowded household in Romiley in the north of England in November 1902, Frank's journey gathered momentum after enlisting with the South Wales Borderers in April 1918.
Subsequently he honed his considerable sporting talents in Wales and later on the playing fields of India.
He was determined to establish a footballing career upon returning to England and signed with Stockport County. During the late 1920s and early 1930s he enjoyed extraordinary seasons with Stockport, Fulham and Reading.
Before a broken leg terminated his career, he had established an outstanding goal-scoring strike rate of over 0.9 goals per game.
