Description

A Designer's Life is a fascinating insight into the glamorous world of Nicky Haslam, one of the UK's leading interior designers, who is renowned for his flamboyant, opulent and elegant style. Nicky grew up in Great Hundridge Manor in Buckinghamshire and was educated at Eton. After a period working for Diana Vreeland at American Vogue in the 1960s, Nicky went on to become Editor of Show magazine before moving to Arizona to breed horses. He returned to England in the early 1970s and began his career as an interior decorator in earnest, setting up his company, NH Design, in the late 1980s. Since then he has decorated the houses of rock stars and royalty, aristocrats and artists alike - many of whom have become close personal friends. Always on the receiving end of countless invitations, Nicky has designed the decor for some of the most glamorous parties for everyone from the Prince of Wales to Paris Hilton. With its fresh, lively and spontaneous approach that reflects Nicky's charisma, wit and charm, A Designer's Life reveals the influences, associations, inspirations and achievements that have been so pivotal throughout the course of his life and work.

About the Author
NICKY HASLAM is one of the UK's most celebrated interior designers. He features on the best-dressed list of both Vanity Fair and GQ magazines, and is also known as a socialite, artist, recording artist, book reviewer, art editor, memoirist and literary editor. Haslam founded his London-based architectural and design firm, NH Design, in the late 1980s. It soon became established as one of the most important luxury interior design offices in the UK, responsible for a wide range of projects all over the globe, including the UK, USA, Canada, Barbados, Denmark, France, Mallorca, Istanbul and Moscow. He has also designed the decor for some of the ritziest parties: an Opera Ball in Hong Kong, the Cartier Polo gala lunches at Windsor, a National Gallery banquet, a party for The New Yorker magazine and events for the Prince of Wales. Nicky has been a guest editor for Vogue and Tatler, and regularly contributes to Harper's Bazaar, London's Evening Standard Magazine, Vanity Fair, Sunday Telegraph Magazine, The World of Interiors and The Spectator. He is the author of Sheer Opulence, a book of his design work, Redeeming Features, a memoir, and Folly de Grandeur (Jacqui Small, 2013), an entertaining tour around his beautiful country home.

Reviews
'Full of beautiful photographs, sketches and amusing anecdotes.' Mayfair Magazine 'It's a big, bright volume stuffed with fascinating sketches, party invites and snapshots. However, its main focus is on interiors, and the narratives behind them. Although the luxury scrapbook is a popular format for interior-design books, this one captivates more than most. Nicky's fluency at drawing and writing enable him to reveal the story behind the interiors he creates, moving fluidly between mediums in a manner rather similar to Beaton himself.' House & Garden 'This book reveals the influences behind Nicky Haslam's vast archive and looks at the charm and wit of his interiors style.' Homes & Gardens 'A dreamworld, perfumed by scented candles, is on offer from the splendid Nicky Haslam. An eclectic mixture of scrapbook, photo album, apologia and top tips for decorating. Reading this book is like nose-diving into a tasselled damask sack of pot pourri, and then being helped up by Bryan Ferry and Andy Warhol.' -- Stephen Bayley Spectator

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
