Description

A Counseling Primer, second edition, introduces students to the profession of counseling, reviews its training curriculum, discusses current professional standards, and presents basic counseling skills.

The text is designed to answer students' most commonly asked questions around the who, what, where, when, why, and how of counseling. Updated and aligned with the eight 2016 CACREP core areas, the second edition includes new chapters by experts from seven entry-level specialty areas, including school counseling, career counseling, and mental health counseling. The book also contains useful features to enhance the learning experience, including case examples, class handouts and activities, a sample syllabus, discussion questions, and more.

A variety of online resources including instructor's manual, PowerPoint slides, tests, class activities, and student supplements are also available for download.

In a comprehensive and accessible format, A Counseling Primer, second edition, provides students with a succinct, up-to-date picture of the counseling profession and the tools they need to make their contribution to the field.

Reviews

"Mary Guindon's first edition of A Counseling Primer was a gem that presented the basic information that beginning counseling students need to know through an engaging and careful balance of essential knowledge, skills, and self-refection. In this second edition, the gem has become a rare diamond. This marriage of skills and self-growth encourages student readers to develop a professional identity as competent, compassionate, and self-compassionate counselors. Students will love this book and will find it difficult to put it down!"-Barbara Herlihy, PhD, professor in practice, University of Texas at San Antonio; professor emerita, University of New Orleans; American Counseling Association Fellow

"This second edition, which includes a new section on counseling specialty areas written by expert contributors, is a basic but comprehensive text that is well organized, easily read, and up to the minute in theory and practice. It will help beginning students navigate the field and understand what the profession of counseling is, was, and will be, from its origins to the present day and beyond."-Lee J. Richmond, PhD, professor emerita, Loyola University, Maryland; past ACA and NCDA President; senior partner, PsyCoun Consultants

"Counselors-in-training who read the second edition of this primer are in for a real treat! Mary Guindon's expertise as a counselor educator and commitment to the personal and professional development of counselor trainees come across clearly in this thoughtfully written text. She and her coauthor, Jessica Lane, have made substantive revisions, resulting in a text that is even more comprehensive than the first edition. Their engaging writing style and the contents of this primer, which includes a new section on counseling specialty areas, make it a must read!"-Michelle Muratori, PhD, senior counselor, Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth; faculty associate, Johns Hopkins School of Education

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
