Description

With a new introduction, and published on the 50th Anniversary of the year that defined a generation, this is the seminal and classic book on the subject.

Lively and concise, here is the book that captures 1969, the year in which man landed on the moon; the "Miracle Mets" captivated sports fans; students took over college campuses and demonstrators battled police; America witnessed the Woodstock music festival; Hollywood produced Easy Rider; Kurt Vonnegut published Slaughterhouse-Five; Star Trek aired its final episode; punk music was born; and there was murder at Altamont Speedway. Joe Namath. Richard Nixon. Chappaquiddick. The Zodiac Killer. The Stonewall Riots. Tommy. Apollo 11. The Godfather. Led Zeppelin. The list goes on. Compelling, timely, and a blast to read, 1969 chronicles the year in culture and society, sports, music, film, politics, and technology. This look back at one of the most influential years in modern history is perfect for those who survived 1969 or for those who simply want to feel as though they did.

Now, fifty years later, 1969 is more relevant than ever. This updated edition features a new introduction from the author that marks 1969 as a landmark year both historically and currently. In this rich and comprehensive narrative, Rob Kirkpatrick chronicles the seminal events of this unparalleled year in American society, in all its explosive ups and downs.

Reviews

"A compelling account of the historic year." -History Channel

"Kirkpatrick treats the tumultuous events of 1969 with the skills of a journalist, a historian, a sociologist, and a sportswriter ... Nostalgic for some, revelatory for others, this is a worthy addition to the literature of the 1960s." -Library Journal

"The year, and a book, that defined an era...The subtitle of his new book, 1969: The Year Everything Changed, may sound hyperbolic, but Kirkpatrick makes a good case that it was a year `of landmark achievements, cataclysmic episodes and generation-defining events.'" -USA Today

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
