Description

Given the misinformation and confusing guidance out there about Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), it is no wonder, as a parent, you might be feeling frustrated and alone.

Through clear, accessible and relatable information, this book provides a solid knowledge base for journeying through the EHCP process from start to finish. From learning to identify your child's needs and how to apply for an EHCP to what to expect from mediation and implementing and maintaining an EHCP once you have one, you'll have all the information you need to make the right decisions for you and your child. Real stories from parents provide an opportunity to learn from others' experiences and you'll also be able to access helpful advice about timelines, template letters and forms for gathering evidence.

Combining their experience of the EHCP process as a professional and a parent, Dr Abigail Fisher, an educational psychologist and teacher, and Eliza Fricker, a Sunday Times bestselling author and illustrator, bring you this go-to guide to help you feel prepared and validated on your EHCP journey.

An illustrated guide to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) for parents.

About the Author
Eliza Fricker is a neurodivergent illustrator and author whose deceptively simple illustrations give way to endearingly perceptive and detailed observations, which are often irreverently humorous and highly emotional. Eliza is the Sunday Times bestselling author of The Family Experience of PDA and Can't Not Won't. Dr Abigail Fisher is an educational psychologist and qualified teacher who works directly with parents, contributing to the EHCP process and running webinars to improve the information and support that parents receive about the process. Eliza Fricker and Abigail run an illustrated webinar together called 'Navigating the EHCP Jungle'.

Reviews
This easy to read guide is one of the most important resources to hit the SEN shelves in recent years; a fantastic support for parents wanting to negotiate an arduous system in which clarity is often hard to find. If you're going to wade through the quagmire of our EHCP system, take Abi and Eliza with you. -- Debby Elley, author of 15 Things They Forgot to Tell You About Autism and Co-author of Championing Your Autistic Teen at Secondary School
This book is a lifeline for parents navigating the Education, Health and Care Plan process. Abigail Fisher and Eliza Fricker manage to combine professional expertise with lived experience, giving clarity and reassurance in what can otherwise feel like an overwhelming system. The step-by-step guidance, real-life stories, and practical tips make this an essential companion for any parent who wants to secure the right support for their child. Accessible, compassionate, and empowering - and more needed than ever in today's challenging educational climate - I cannot recommend it highly enough. -- Jessie Hewitson, author of Autism: How to Raise a Happy Autistic Child and ADHD: How to Raise a Happy ADHD Child
This book is a best friend and advocate in one - guiding parents through the complexities of the EHCP process using plain language, realism and grounded advice. The book's level-headed approach balances the role of the local authority with how parents and families navigating the process feel, acknowledging frustrations and providing many practical ways to overcome these challenges. An accessible and comprehensive companion for reducing parental overwhelm at any stage of the EHCP process. -- Alice Running (PgC Autism), Neuroaffirming Autistic Advocate and Author
As a parent who navigated the EHCP process seven years ago, I wish this guide had existed then. It demystifies the jargon and steps, offers practical strategies families can use straight away and weaves in diverse parent stories that reduce the feeling of isolation. This book is a compassionate and empowering companion for parents and carers starting this journey. -- Reena Anand, Neurodiversity Consultant and Coach
This book clearly, simply and honestly explains the sometimes overwhelming and complicated process of navigating the EHCP process. Abigail and Eliza's combination of professional and personal experiences, case studies, interviews and illustrations make this book an absolute must read for any parents considering an EHCP for their child. -- Laura Kerbey, Autism and Education Consultant, Author and Founder of PAST
Navigating the world of SEN can be stressful and confusing. Eliza and Abigail have produced a fantastic guide based on both their personal and professional experiences of the EHCP process and beyond, which removes some of the anxiety from the reader. The guides takes you on a journey of thinking differently and asking questions that go towards understanding your child and their rights leaving you feeling more confident in advocating for them. -- Jodie Clarke, author of Stop the World I Want to Get Off

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
