Description

The Appalachian Trail spans fourteen states from Maine to Georgia and is more than 2,000 miles long. Now, eighty years after its completion, the A.T. remains America s premier hiking trail and is known as the People s Path. This beautifully illustrated book officially published with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy highlights this legendary footpath with more than 170 spectacular contemporary images taken by the foremost hiking photographer in America. The photographs allow readers to experience the trail as if their boots were on the path passing by the iconic white trail blazers, taking in the surrounding wilderness at scenic overlooks, meeting other hikers at lean-tos or shelters, and freezing at the sight of a black bear, moose, or other majestic wildlife. This book is perfect for anyone interested in conservation, outdoor recreation, or American history, or for those who dream of one day becoming thru-hikers themselves.

About the Author
Bart Smith was the first person to walk all eleven of America s national scenic trails. His photography has been published in Smithsonian and National Geographic magazines, as well as in books. Ron Tipton is the executive director/CEO of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. The Appalachian Trail Conservancy s mission is to preserve and manage the Appalachian Trail.

Reviews
"The beauty of this "mini edition" is that is it exclusively photographs. It allows the viewer to sit and experience the trail and every page is a delight. Footpaths beckon you to follow as they twist and turn into the distance.... Officially published with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, this [is a] jewel of a book."

The shipping was just superior

The shipping was just superior; not even one of the books was in contact with the shipping box -anywhere-, not even a corner or the bottom, so all the books arrived in perfect condition. The international shipping took around 2 weeks, so pretty great too.
