Charley Chase...is one of the great old-time comics who was touched by the cruel hand of genius but whose acceptance among the arbiters of taste was delayed until a half-century after his death. Now there is a biography, written con amor by a pair of excellent researchers whose affection for their subject is evident. American Cinematographer Anthony and Edmonds perform a worthy public service for the film community by showcasing the busy, comic, and poignant life of film writer-director-actor Charley Chase...the pleasant, fluid narrative opts for the personal rather than the scholarly touch...the breadth and depth of personal interviews is staggering. Anthony and Edmonds provide an engaging model for reviving the personal histories of the silent and early sound films eras, making old black-and-white comic images not only accessible but colorful and entertaining. All academic and public film collections. CHOICE ...a fascinating trip through Chase's career. The writing is simple and unadorned, much like the filmaking of Chase himself. The authors have a vast knowledge of Chase's shorts, and they meticulously take us through each year of his career...Unlike many writers, however, Anthony and Edmonds aren't blinded by their subject. Classic Images ...the authors...managed to reveal the full story of Chase through access to the Hal Roach Studio papers and their interviews with Roach himself, Chase's daughters, Jules White, Joe Rock, Ed Bernds, Dorothy Granger, Elwood Ullman, Anita Garvin, Marvin hatley and others who worked with him...photos include many from the Chase family album never before published...I appreciated Chase before I read the book and do so even more now... The Big Reel Charley Chase is America's great unsung comedy talent. It's about time someone devoted an entire book to him! Leonard Maltin Anthony and Edmonds do an excellent job of evoking the worlds in which Chase lived and worked...This is a worthwhile and valuable book. Past Times Author and Charley Chase buff Brian Anthony presents his idol, warts and all...excellent research and dedicated attention to detail...a rich three-dimensional portrait of Chase and his times. The Silents Majority ...diligent research...a complete filmography is included which on its own is a miracle of accomplishment...in addition, the authors have dug deeply into the archives of the film companies where Chase worked and given us a chronology of the movies he made, the dates they were done, even the casts...well-researched and documented...an illuminating study of the man and his times. Four stars. Rapport Now, thanks to the diligent research of these authors, tribute has at last been paid. A complete filmography is included which on its own is a miracle accomplishment...the general movie buff will more than likely taste the fruits of this endeavor. For those who are resourceful enough to read this well-researched and documented story, they'll find themselves with an illuminating study of the man and his times. Rapport, Vol. 20, No. 5 Along with fascinating biographical details, the authors cite specific films for analysis and provide a complet annotated filmography. Film Quarterly ...its cultural value is certain, providing an interesting and entertaining context for a forgotten star. Historical Journal Of Film, Radio, & Television The authors are most successful in making a case for a reexamination of Chase's work. This is a long-needed and most highly recommended book. Calculating estimated delivery times
Delivery is estimated at 1-3 working days after dispatch (depending upon options chosen at checkout) PLUS the "Availability" time estimate given in the product price section at the top of the page. Ex. if this states "Usually Dispatched Within 1 Working Day" and you order at 11am the delivery estimate would be 3 days. Orders from 6pm for example wouldn't process that day so delivery estimate would be 4 days. Also please note that we do not dispatch on the weekend and do not class these as working days.

What if my shipment is overdue?
In the event of 15 working days (25 for non UK customers) passing from the point of dispatch with no goods being received we will confirm the delivery address with yourself and normally would either dispatch a replacement shipment or issue a refund.
To return your product, you should mail your product to: Booksplea.se, Aphrohead Ltd, 277a Wennington Rd, Southport, PR9 7TW, United Kingdom. If you are approved, then your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment, within a certain amount of days. Late or missing refunds (if applicable) If you haven't received a refund yet, first check your bank account, there is often some processing time before a refund is showing in your account. Why is next day delivery not available?
As the site gets bigger it will be but we don't have sufficient volume to offer this currently.
Can I collect from your warehouse?
No sorry. We are internet trading only, previously we did have a bookshop where this was possible.
How can I enter a coupon code?
On the cart page under the "Use A Coupon" tab.
Do you guarantee delivery by a particular date?
No we don't sorry - we ship to over 100 countries through many different carriers and cannot offer a guarantee that your order will arrive within a particular timeframe.
Can I order by phone?
Sorry this isn't available for smaller orders (under £250), the costs of telephone staff don't cover the extra sales generated.
Do you have fly fishing by JR Hartley?
Sorry out of stock - if it's not for sale on the site we don't have it. We may add the ability to pre-order titles in the future.
Are all items held in stock?
Not all - we have over £900,000 of stock in our warehouse but would need tens of millions of pounds worth of inventory to have just 1 copy of everything for sale on the site. We place daily orders with in excess of 100 publishers and wholesalers who typically deliver into us next day. Also please note if placing a larger order the delivery time frame may slightly increase due to the need to possibly source titles from multiple suppliers. Please note this is the same model used by nearly all online booksellers.
I'm pleased with your service and want to leave a review of your site?
Please if you are so inclined leave a review on Google. We seem to have picked up 6 bad reviews and just 4 good ones (from over 170k orders under the booksplease name). Hardly anyone leaves a review for us on there but this is the first thing you see googling our name so we rely on happy customers helping us out.
I've never ordered off you is it safe?
It's safe & all will be ok - you may have ordered from us before under our previous selling name "Aphrohead" - we have processed around 18,000,000 orders since the companies formation in 2005. We are located in Southport, UK
