'Brew Britannia is informed, funny, well researched and eminently readable' -- Tim Hampson, (author of Great Beers and London's Best Pubs) 'a very welcome addition to the national beer library... Brew Britannia is a well-researched, easily-readable pleasure deserving of the attention of a wider readership than keen beer drinkers.' -- Jeff Pickthall Brewery History 'The narrative bounces along and is hard to put down -- a thoroughly interesting read.' The Brewer and Distiller International 'We need this account, in this form, if we are to fully understand where beer is today, how it got here, and from there, to start to speculate about where it might go next... this is a book that I wish I had written, but was beaten to by people who have in many ways done a far better job than I would have' -- Pete Brown, author of Man Walks Into A Pub 'Brew Britannia is a fascinating odyssey through the last half-century of British beer and I would recommend this without a moment's thought' -- Adrian Tierney-Jones Called to the Bar 'An excellent guide to the journey British beer has taken in the past half-century, well worth reading whether you lived through it or not, simply to understand where we are now' -- Martyn Cornell (author of Beer: The Story of the Pint) 'A fascinating tale of peculiarly British pluck and pioneering spirit, all washed down with lots of great beer' thebeerboy.blogspot.co.uk 'This is an exhilarating read, well researched, in the main objective, and encompassing the views of many important players in the great beer revival of the past 40 years' -- Roger Protz, editor of CAMRA's Good Beer Guide Protz on Beer 'For anyone interested in beer's modern renaissance, it's a quirky, comprehensive read, filled both with obscure information and more essential facts' Saveur magazine 'A meticulously researched, detailed account of the 'rebirth' of British beer, and how a continual parade of enthusiasts, professional and amateur, helped get British brewing back on its feet... tremendous' -- Richard Taylor The BeerCast 'One of the most important books on beer to be released in the last ten years. If you're even remotely into beer I would advise picking up a copy immediately and getting stuck in straight away' Total Ales 'Where the book excels, is in the pulling together of a non-linear story of change into a narrative of characters, key people and events. Those that are familiar with the story, and those that are not, and those that have even the most passing interest in British beer and brewing will equally find it fascinating and educational' Tandleman's Beer Blog 'It's not just a great book, it's an important one for the time we live in. My advice is: don't wait a few years before reading it. The lessons that can be learned from Brew Britannia are best appreciated right now' -- Chris Hall The Beer Diary 'Well written - but I'd expect no less from them - and with loads of good stories about the individuals who drove the quest for better beer. It kept me entertained even while my arse was aching from hours of sitting' barclayperkins.blogspot.co.uk 'I haven't devoured a book about beer so quickly and enjoyably since five years ago, when I read Pete Brown's own social history of beer ... sneaking off to read a couple of chapters in every lunch break... The authors succeed in telling a story of fascinating and human characters' The Beer Prole 'Compelling' Independent 'Buy this book. It is one of the strongest and most entertaining bits of writing about good beer that has come out in recent years' -- Alan McLeod A Good Beer Blog 'It is an excellent and enjoyable book which really is essential reading for anyone wanting to understand the development of the specialist beer market in Britain over the past forty years' The Pub Curmudgeon '[Boak and Bailey] - like all good historians - are keen to go back to original sources. They speak to the people who were there at the time, the movers and the shakers in this remarkable renaissance of British beer' -- Jeff Evans insidebeer.com 'Brew Britannia is an excellent book; investigative, frank, even-handed and, above all, vital to both the beer geek and the neophyte alike' -- Leigh Linley The Good Stuff 'Brew Britannia has, in exploring the past, got me thinking about the future - but aside from all of that, it's a bloody enjoyable and interesting read, and one which I will dip back into for reference time and time again' -- Rowan Molyneux Molyneux's Beer Blog 'An excellent read!' -- Jeff Pickthall @jeffpickthall 'The vast amount of research that went into it is very apparent, with a wide array of documentary evidence cited, as well as first-person interviews with almost all the main characters, providing never-before-seen information and viewpoints... For a history book set mostly in my own lifetime on a subject I'm very interested in, I can point out almost no omissions' beoir.org

Calculating estimated delivery times
Delivery is estimated at 1-3 working days after dispatch (depending upon options chosen at checkout) PLUS the "Availability" time estimate given in the product price section at the top of the page. Ex. if this states "Usually Dispatched Within 1 Working Day" and you order at 11am the delivery estimate would be 3 days. Orders from 6pm for example wouldn't process that day so delivery estimate would be 4 days. Also please note that we do not dispatch on the weekend and do not class these as working days.
Completely FREE saver worldwide delivery is offered for most orders. Please note items may dispatch in separate shipments. Apologies but we don't ship to EU countries other than the UK. Booksplea.se reserve the right to cancel or amend orders which incur a loss for Booksplea.se. Customers located in one country selecting delivery to an alternative country may see delivery charges added at checkout.

Estimated Delivery Time
What if my order hasn't dispatched within the dispatch time estimate?
Sorry if this occurs with your order - we are still processing the order and will dispatch ASAP. Typically any delays encountered are for just a 24 hour period. If you wish to cancel the order & source elsewhere please contact us.
What if my shipment is overdue?
In the event of 15 working days passing from the point of dispatch with no goods being received we will confirm the delivery address with yourself and normally would either dispatch a replacement shipment or issue a refund.
To return your product, you should mail your product to: Booksplea.se, Aphrohead Ltd, 277a Wennington Rd, Southport, PR9 7TW, United Kingdom. You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item if we are not at fault - If needed a freepost return address can be given for any defective or incorrect product, please contact us if this is the case. If you are shipping an item over £75, you should consider using a trackable shipping service or purchasing shipping insurance. We don't guarantee that we will receive your returned item.
Our Returns policy lasts 30 days from the date of delivery. If 30 days have gone by since your delivery date, unfortunately we can't offer you a refund or exchange. To be eligible for a return reasonable care must be taken to return the goods in the condition received. Ideally this would be returned in the original packaging.
Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item. We will also notify you of the approval or rejection of your refund. If you are approved, then your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment, within a certain amount of days. Late or missing refunds (if applicable) If you haven't received a refund yet, first check your bank account, there is often some processing time before a refund is showing in your account. If you've done this and you still have not received your refund yet, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Why is next day delivery not available?
As the site gets bigger it will be but we don't have sufficient volume to offer this currently.
Can I collect from your warehouse?
No sorry. We are internet trading only, previously we did have a bookshop where this was possible.
How can I enter a coupon code?
On the cart page under the "Use A Coupon" tab.
Can I order by phone?
Sorry this isn't available for smaller orders (under £250), the costs of telephone staff don't cover the extra sales generated.
Do you have fly fishing by JR Hartley?
Sorry out of stock - if it's not for sale on the site we don't have it. We may add the ability to pre-order titles in the future.
Are all items held in stock?
Not all - we have over £900,000 of stock in our warehouse but would need tens of millions of pounds worth of inventory to have just 1 copy of everything for sale on the site. We place daily orders with in excess of 100 publishers and wholesalers who typically deliver into us next day. Also please note if placing a larger order the delivery time frame may slightly increase due to the need to possibly source titles from multiple suppliers. Please note this is the same model used by nearly all online booksellers.
Why do you have .se on your website name & not .com?
We wanted a new site as the old one (Aphrohead.com) didn't perform to expectations, no offers to take us over came in from Amazon or Theo Paphitis etc. We came up with the name Books Please so had the choice of going with booksplease.co.uk or booksplea.se. Decided to go for booksplea.se - it seems to confuse a few but still seems to work better than Aphrohead.
I'm pleased with your service and want to leave a review of your site?
Please if you are so inclined leave a review on Google. We seem to have picked up 6 bad reviews and just 4 good ones (from over 170k orders under the booksplease name). Hardly anyone leaves a review for us on there but this is the first thing you see googling our name so we rely on happy customers helping us out.
I've never ordered off you is it safe?
It's safe & all will be ok - you may have ordered from us before under our previous selling name "Aphrohead" - we have processed around 18,000,000 orders since the companies formation in 2005. We are located in Southport, UK
